What is the difference between Academic Intervention & Tutoring?
Academic Intervention sessions occur in a one to one atmosphere. Academic Intervention is designed to follow an Individual Learning Plan that is developed after reviewing the student's file, derived from a screening, or from recent psycho-educational testing. The purpose of Academic Intervention is to provide intense academic support in order to get a child back on track that may not be on grade level according to Assessments. Data is taken during sessions to see how skills are improving and progressing. Parent consultation and consultations with the child's school are requested on an ongoing basis to determine if the child is progressing. Tutoring focuses more on helping the child maintain progress on their current assignments in school. LEAF does not offer tutoring services.
How much does it cost?
LEAF understands all of the costs that occur in the families of children with special learning needs. We keep that in mind when formulating the fees associated with academic assistance. LEAF provides services to families that can fit into a variety of budgets and vary depending on the services that you desire. There are no long contracts to sign.
There are a few factors that go into the cost of a personal academic assistance program — the first and foremost being your child’s individual learning needs and the academic goals you have for him or her.
Others are:
-
the length of the program
-
academic subjects
-
the payment schedule that best fits your family’s needs
Please contact LEAF for the most specific information on pricing and payment options. LEAF parents say that our academic program is an investment that’s worth every penny and it is. We are more affordable than you may think!

What kind of training do the Learning Coaches have at LEAF?
The staff at LEAF undergo an extensive interview process prior to being hired. LEAF only employs those that are capable and knowledgeable to work with your child. The Lead Learning Coaches oversee the Learning Coaches as they provide services to students. The Learning Coaches are generally the staff that possess a Degree in education or the field in which they will be teaching and/or 6 months of experience in this field. The LEAF Learning Coaches are generally the staff that possess a Bachelor's Degree or higher and 2 years plus experience in this field. All staff are trained on the LEAF methodology and must pass a test prior to working with any student. The training and requirements vary for the staff depending on which program the staff works under. Please inquire within for more information.
Will LEAF work with my child's other related services and school?
Yes — collaborating with your child’s classroom teacher & related services staff plays a key role in the success of his or her learning program. This is also something LEAF is proud to offer your family. There aren't many programs that make it a priority to connect with your child's school and other related services. With your permission, our Director will communicate with your child’s classroom teacher and partner with him or her on a regular basis. This ensures that the progress you see in our academic program is reflected in the classroom.
How often and how long should my child receive services?
A very good question! Your child’s learning program is geared to your child, so how long he or she needs to attend depends on the goals you’ve set. We take the time to identify precisely what your child’s needs are and map out a progression of lessons that makes sense. We assess the progress your child makes at each lesson and adjust as needed, so your child stays engaged and enthusiastic, not frustrated.
One or two Academic Intervention sessions per week are the recommended at a minimum in order for your child to see progress. We understand that juggling an entire family’s activities in any given week can make that seem almost impossible! To help that problem, we offer convenient after-school, evening and weekend sessions. Talk to us if you’re still finding it hard to schedule sessions — we’ll work together to create a schedule that works with your family.
If you have any questions that weren't addressed, it doesn't make them any less important. Please contact the office. We are pleased to answer any and all questions that you may have!
ADHD vs. Sensory Processing Issues
Have you noticed your child constantly fidgeting or squirming. Does your child invade your personal space often. These can be signs of ADHD and/or sensory processing issues. Both issues are different, but there have been instances when they coexist.
ADHD is a biological condition that makes it difficult for some people to sit still and concentrate. People with sensory processing issues deal with an being over or under stimulated by things like sights, sounds, flavors, or even smells.
